Traders operating within New Delhi's commercial districts of Connaught Place and Khan Market reported significant financial losses resulting from ongoing protests that have disrupted business operations. The commercial disruptions have led to market closures, traffic jams, and restricted public access across key retail areas in the national capital. Business owners stated that the adverse economic impact has persisted over the past four to five days, severely affecting daily retail turnover and footfall.
Atul Bhargava, President of the New Delhi Traders Association, stated that the difficulties faced by merchants due to the ongoing demonstrations have accumulated over several days. Mr. Bhargava explained that the situation has impacted commercial viability and public convenience throughout the shopping district. Traders have raised urgent concerns regarding mounting financial damage and potential risks to commercial property during the demonstrations.
Sanjiv Mehra, President of the Khan Market Association, along with Vice President Brij Gopal Khosla, noted that merchants voluntarily chose to keep establishments shut due to the protests. Representatives emphasized that designated commercial hubs suffer immediate commercial setbacks whenever demonstrations occur nearby. Business associations are urging the government to relocate protest sites to designated areas in order to safeguard local commerce and public convenience.
