Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge stated that the current administration is actively suppressing fundamental rights and democratic processes across the country. Speaking on national governance, the opposition leader alleged that authorities are dismantling constitutional frameworks and restricting civil liberties in India.

Mr. Kharge specifically asserted that the government is undermining basic freedoms, including freedom of movement and freedom of speech. He further stated that the administration is restricting the freedom of vote and adult franchise while handling public demonstrations and political opposition.

The remarks follow ongoing political friction between opposition leaders and the Centre regarding civil detentions and the oversight of electoral processes. Congress leaders have previously staged demonstrations in various locations, including Kalaburagi, in response to the detention of prominent party figures.

Mr. Kharge criticized the administration's handling of the Election Commission and public protests, describing the current political environment as a muzzled democracy. The opposition party continues to call for institutional accountability regarding democratic norms and the protection of constitutional rights across all states.
