Supreme Court Bar Association President Pradeep Rai addressed the media regarding the recent detention of lawyers, emphasizing the fundamental importance of constitutional rights and the independence of the legal institution. Speaking to reporters, Rai detailed the purpose behind the assembly held to show solidarity with legal professionals and citizens who faced police action. Around 60 lawyers were detained near the Supreme Court ahead of a planned protest before being released following the intervention of the Chief Justice of India.
The detentions occurred outside the top court as security personnel took approximately 60 advocates into custody. The Supreme Court Bar Association swiftly sought the intervention of the Chief Justice of India to secure the immediate release of the detained professionals. Following the judicial intervention, the lawyers were released hours after their initial detention by authorities in New Delhi.
During his address, Pradeep Rai stressed that the legal fraternity stands united in defending constitutional protections and institutional integrity. The assembly served as a formal demonstration of support for the detained colleagues and underscored the necessity of safeguarding the rights of advocates to assemble and voice grievances peacefully within the national capital.
