The Supreme Court directed authorities to review security barricades, restore internet services, and ensure normal metro operations across Delhi while emphasizing the fundamental right to peaceful protest. The apex court issued the directives during a special hearing addressing transit bans, internet shutdowns, and police actions in the national capital.
The bench ordered authorities to dismantle excessive transit restrictions and transit bans that it deemed over-reaching, while seeking official responses regarding police conduct and detentions. The judicial intervention comes in response to miscellaneous applications and petitions filed following restrictions implemented across the city.
Authorities must now evaluate existing barricades and ensure that public movement, communication channels, and transportation networks remain fully operational. The court reiterated that citizens maintain a protected constitutional right to peaceful assembly and free movement within the national capital.
